The Memorial Pipe Band Dookinella was formed in 1948 and is continuing to this day Achill Island’s proud association with the musical tradition of the bagpipes.
The band plays at various local (and not so local) festivals, fleadh, cultural and musical events, with the centre-piece being the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade in Achill. In this parade we form part of a renowned massed bands tribute which is some five bands strong, including the other four Achill pipe bands from the villages of Dooagh, Keel, Pollagh and Tonragee. Currently the band consists of 31 members, with 15 members playing in the pipe core, 6 members in the bass and tenor section and 6 members on the side drums. There are 2 drum majors and 2 flag bearers.
